Imagine Brownsville Comprehensive Plan

The City of Brownsville was awarded the American Planning Association's 2009 Comprehensive Planning Award for the Imagine Brownsville Comprehensive Plan. Adopted on July 21, 2009, the City of Brownsville, Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, and the Imagine Brownsville Task Force worked diligently to develop the Imagine Brownsville Comprehensive Plan.

Current Implementation Projects


  • Resaca Restoration Project: The Brownsville Public Utilities Board initiated the project on March 22, 2013. The project encompasses several components of the Comprehensive Plan, such as environmental and drainage.
  • Future Land Use Plan: The Zoning Division implements this section of the Comprehensive Plan when reviewing rezoning applications. As development continues, the plan will be monitored and taken into consideration.
  • Parks and Recreation Master Plan: As part of the Open Space Plan section, a Parks and Recreation Master Plan is being developed to provide direction on the City's trails, parks and open space system to improve the quality of life of citizens. Estimated completion date is April 2015.
